Student teaching

During your final semester at Missouri State, you will student teach. Student teaching meetings are held each month. Attendance is required. You are required to participate in all extracurricular activities with your cooperating teacher to receive the full 12 hours of credit.

During your third semester you should apply for admission into the BSED speech and theatre program. During your fourth semester you should take the CBASE test and apply for admission into the teacher education program. Your second portfolio checkpoint will occur during your seventh semester.

Tips for success

  • This is a comprehensive major with no minor required for this major.
  • GPA requirements: 2.75 on all course work; 3.00 in major, 3.00 in the professional education courses; and a grade of "C" or better in each course is required for state certification.
  • Other requirements: ACT score of 20 or pass MOGEA exam. Admit to Teacher Education, and pass MoCA exams.
  • Course periodicity warnings: THE 125, THE 323, COM 532 and THE 417 are Fall only; COM 534 and COM 536 are Spring only.
