Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts is excited to present a Shakespeare master class with actors from the renowned Aquila Theatre Company!

Date:     Monday, October 19, 2009

Time:     3:30-5:00 pm

Place:    Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts, 5th floor Mezzanine

High school and college students (and their teachers!) are invited to participate in this master class that explores the beauties and difficulties found while acting Shakespeare.  Students will be shown the clear directions and choices that Shakespeare gives the actor within the text, and will be introduced to some of Aquila's methods of classical acting.  This textual analysis will include examples of verse structure and rhythm, and will focus on exploring the demands and rewards of verse speaking.  It is devised to give participants a strong comprehension and illumination of a Shakespearean text from a performance perspective.  There is no cost to participate!

Based in New York City, Aquila Theatre is a company of British and American artists dedicated to classical drama, and is the foremost producer of touring classical theatre in the United States.

Aquila will be performing Shakespeare's As You Like It at 7:30pm Tuesday, October 20 at Juanita K. Hammons Hall.  Great seats are still available - tickets can be purchased in advance at the box office, by phone at 836-7678 (toll-free 1-888-476-7849) or online at HammonsHall.com.  Join us on the Mezzanine at 6:30pm for a pre-performance talk by actors from the company.  Student Rush tickets will be available at the box office one hour prior to the show - only $10 per student for best available seating!
