I Love You Because

New Header ImageTickets for the MSU Theatre & Dance Production of I Love You Because are on sale now!

By Ryan Cunningham (book and lyrics) and Joshua Salzman (Music)
Directed by Michael Casey
A contemporary twist on Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, this buoyant musical comedy proves that opposites attract! When uptight Austin Bennett meets free-spirited Marcy Fitzwilliams through an online dating service, the sparks don't exactly fly. Austin still carries a torch for ex-girlfriend Catherine, and Marcy is convinced that conservative Austin is Mr. Wrong. Meanwhile, Austin's brother Jeff and Marcy's friend Diana have an instant connection, though both fear commitment. The singles share their perspectives on love ranging from the cynical to the sublime through a witty script and delightful score that strike a perfect match!
This production includes adult themes and language.

Want to see the Missouri State's University Theatre & Dance production of I Love You Because... for HALF-OFF? Just come to The Coffee Ethic on the Square downtown, and you can while supplies last!!

On the heels of an incredibly successful "Dinner and a Movie" program this summer, the Downtown Springfield Association announces a new partnership with the Springfield Theatre Alliance called "D Tix". The program will offer limited day-of performance tickets to plays and musicals at half the box office price. With six theatre companies participating, there is a wide variety of entertainment choices.

The Coffee Ethic on Park Central Square will sell day-of performance tickets beginning at noon through 30 minutes before curtain. Savings will typically range from $4 to $12.50, depending on the venue and type of show. Ticket inventory at this discounted rate will be limited and at the discretion of individual productions. Sales will be "first come, first served" so patrons are encouraged to check the board early for ticket availability. The Coffee Ethic accepts credit cards, cash, and Downtown Dollars gift certificates. There is a $1 handling fee charged per ticket. The program will run from October 1 through December 31.

The Springfield Theatre Alliance exists to promote live theatre, building upon both the tradition and uniqueness of Springfield's downtown theatres and university programs. Formed in 2008, its participating members include:

-Missouri State University Theatre & Dance (Craig Hall, Missouri State University campus)
-Skinny Improv & Springfield Playhouse (301 Park Central East)
-Springfield Contemporary Theatre at Vandivort Center Theatre (305 E. Walnut)

Ticket Giveaway

New Header ImageThis week, you can win two tickets to see Aquila Theatre's As You Like It on Tuesday, October 20th at 7:30 PM at the Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts.

If you wish to enter in this giveaway, please send an e-mail to Matt Tassell (Tassell65456@Live.MissouriState.edu) with "As You Like It" in the subject field by Thursday, October 15th, 2009 at 12:00 PM.

Shakespeare's comic brilliance is wrapped in gender-confused, unrequited love - as we join Aquila Theatre in the Forest of Arden, where love comes in all shapes, sizes, and disguises. Set in a period of revolution in France when love conquered all, As You Like It tells the story of power hungry men exiling their brothers, girls playing guys, and finding love in unexpected places. Frederick exiles his brother, Duke Senior, so he can reign over a French Duchy. Simultaneously, Orlando, who has been forced from his own town by a bloodthirsty brother, finds himself in the Forest of Arden. Dressed as men, Rosalind and her best friend and cousin, Celia, run from Frederick's regime and seek shelter in the forest where they are fated to find the exiled Orlando and Duke Senior. The Aquila Theatre Company, described by The New York Times as "a classically trained, modernly hip troupe", infuses As You Like It with their unique blend of fun and entertaining theatricality. The production is both faithful to Shakespeare and relevant and accessible to a modern audience.
