Miss Julie
This week is your FINAL CHANCE to see August Strindberg's Miss Julie! Get your tickets before they sell out!
Set on the estate of a Swedish count in 1894, Miss Julie explores the interplay of love and lust, social mores and class struggle, power and choice. Miss Julie, the Count's strong-willed daughter, dreams of escaping the constraints of her social station. Jean, the Count's worldly valet, aspires to manage his own inn. During the course of one fateful Midsummer's Eve, their relationship flows from flirtation to passion, kindness to cruelty, hope to despair. This intense psychological drama exposes the underlying forces in the battles of the sexes and classes.

Miss Julie Review
Congratulations to the cast and crew of Miss Julie, who earned a glowing review in the Springfield News-Leader!
Reviewer Larry Colins wrote of the production,
"Missouri State University opens its fall season with an intimate Balcony Theatre staging directed with restraint and cool objectivity by Telory Davies... Even near the end of the play, when Julie's 'No Way Out' dilemma invites the conventions of the traditional 'mad scene,' Lauren Sweetser makes her more dazed-and-confused than outright delirious... Andrew Venneman is effective as a low-key and soft-spoken Jean, a man whose dispassionate cockiness shows equal disdain for women of all classes."

Incognito
Save the Date!!
Thursday October 8th at 7:30pm in Carrington Auditorium
Incognito written and performed by Michael Fosberg
FREE!!!
Writer/performer Michael Fosberg began a personal search for his biological father at age 34 that turns up a whole lot more. Armed with only the name of his father and the knowledge that he lived in the Detroit area two decades earlier, Fosberg makes a miraculous call which sets in motion a series of discoveries of family -- of secrets and lies, confrontation and reconciliation. Incognito balances humor and emotion as it deals with race, prejudice and life's difficult choices.
Michael Fosberg, a Chicago native, has been writing, acting, and directing for more than twenty-five years. He has performed in Chicago as an actor at the Steppenwolf & Goodman Theatres, having worked with directors Gary Sinise, John Malkovich, and Robert Falls. He received a Jeff Citation for Best Actor for his performance in Sam Shepard's Savage/Love. His memoir, Incognito, on which the play is based, will be published next fall by Chicago Review Press. The film company NUMBER 8 is currently making a documentary about his life and play.

Hailed by The Oakland Tribune as "one of the most engaging all-around performers in the jazz game", pianist/composer Michael Wolff brings a strong mix of straight-ahead original instrumental jazz and a foot-stomping funky New Orleans vibe to the Hammons Hall stage - as he and his sidemen Ugonna Okegwo on bass and Victor Jones on drums feature music from Wolff's new jazz album Joe's Strut. ALLMUSIC notes "an assured quick-mindedness, full of surprises" in his music...JAZZTIMES magazine praises Wolff as "a musical renaissance man"...Metaljazz.com calls him "a man whose recorded history shows he can absorb any form, from Indian raga to urban blues, and make it sound effortless"...and critics agree that Michael Wolff has "found his groove" with this funky new album.
