Playwrights- Modern Mystery Plays & UTD One-Acts
This is a reminder that the 2nd Annual Modern Mystery Plays Playwright Competition is still accepting scripts! Completed scripts must
be submitted no later than November 20, 2008.
Mystery
Plays are the example of medieval drama, when people gather to hear and
see the mystery of God unfold before them. The plays existed in
"cycles" of individual performances of stories from Genesis to
Revelation. You are invited to adapt to "mystery play" into a
modern/current day setting. Two scripts will be chosen for the
production in the Spring of 2009.
A scholarship of $500 will be
awarded to the playwright of each production. To be eligible,
you must be a student enrolled at Missouri State University with a
major within the Theatre & Dance Department.
For more information, contact Sarah Wiggin (swiggin@missouristate.edu) or Howard Cavner (howardcavner@missouristate.edu). Please contact either Sarah or Howard ASAP, so that they can help track your progress!
The Modern Mystery plays are a cooperative program of The House Campus Ministry and the MSU Department of Theatre & Dance.
Also, the submission deadline for the UTD Student-Written One-Acts is November 20, 2008. Please give any original scripts to any UTD Officer, the Theatre & Dance Office (Craig 355), or to MissouriStateUTD@gmail.com.

If you wish to enter in this giveaway, please respond to this e-mail, OR send an e-mail to Matt Tassell (Tassell65456@MissouriState.edu) with "Fuddy Meers" in the subject field by Wednesday, November 5th, 2008 at 5:00 PM. You MUST include which date(s) will work for you.
FUDDY MEERS
By David Lindsay-Abaire Directed by Alex Murphy Featuring Eli
Cunningham, Lynda Ellis, Bryan Moses, Meg Rice, Bryant Turnage, Kathryn Vicat
and Jimmy Wilson. A poignant and brutal new comedy traces one woman's attempt
to regain her memory while surrounded by a curio-cabinet of alarmingly bizarre
characters. "...heady fun...fresh, zingy dialogue, which revels in warping the
language of self-help books...Like the resourceful chef who turns leftovers into
haute cuisine, Mr. Lindsay-Abaire blends clichéd ingredients into something
savory and distinctive...[a] dark, sweet and thoroughly engaging comedy." -The New
York Times.
A Springfield area premiere This play contains adult themes and language.

Ticket Giveaway: Working
This week, you can also win two tickets to "Working" at Parkview High School. This show is being sponsored by David Kaimann, a Theatre Education major who is currently student teaching at Parkview. The show runs November 6-8 at 7 PM, and November 9 at 2 PM.
If you wish to enter in this giveaway, please respond to this e-mail, OR send an e-mail to Matt Tassell (Tassell65456@MissouriState.edu) with "Wanted" in the subject field by Thursday, November 6, 2008 at 1:30 PM.
The hopes, dreams, joys and concerns of the average
working American are the focus of this unique, extraordinary musical.
That the everyday lives of 'common' men and women should be so
compelling and moving will surprise and inspire anyone who has ever
punched a time clock. Working paints a vivid portrait of the men and
women the world so often takes for granted: the schoolteacher, the
parking lot attendant, the waitress, the millworker, the mason, the
trucker, the fireman, the housewife, just to name a few. It's a highly
original look at the American landscape that's simply impossible to
forget.
