The Girlhood of Shakespeare's Heroines
TADBanner08 This is the final week to see Missouri State Theatre & Dance Production of The Girlhood of Shakespeare's Heroines!

The show runs in Balcony Theatre from October 7-10 at 7:30 PM, and October 12, 2008 at 2:30 PM. Tickets
are $8-14, and can be purchased at any Missouri State box office, or online at MissouriStateTix.com.

What if women who appear to play supporting roles, in theatre or in life, were able to play a starring role in their own stories? The Girlhood of Shakespeare's Heroines by Don Nigro, completes the idea that all the world is a stage and the life of the "minor" character isn't always as dismissive as we would like it to be. This is a journey of loneliness, madness, lust, and humor. In a strange, other-worldly cabaret a rather lucid Ophelia from Hamlet tells her side of the story, a mad Mariana from Measure for Measure dreams of love on her terms, a feisty Miranda from The Tempest catches a glimpse of life outside the box she has been put in, and 2 actresses Bonnie and Zoe allow us a glimpse into the comedy and tragedy that exists off-stage. Funny and sexy, dark and compelling, the words rush forward with poetic prose, making every last bit fantastic.

The Normal Heart on Display
TADBanner08 As part of the 5-year anniversary of the Ozarks Lesbian and Gay Archives at Missouri State's Meyer Library, the exhibit "Pride and Prejudice: Selections from the Ozarks Lesbian and Gay Archives" will feature the controversial Theatre & Dance production of Larry Kramer's The Normal Heart.

There will be a special reception TODAY, Tuesday, October 7th, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, in Room 306 of Meyer Library. The exhibit will be on display through December 23rd, 2008.

Produced in 1989, The Normal Heart was met with mass protests, national media attention, bomb threats, and even a case of arson, due to it's themes of homosexuality and AIDS. This is a very significant time period for the Theatre & Dance Department, and we would like to encourage everybody to attend.

Playwright Competition- 2009 Modern Mystery Plays
TADBanner08 Announcing the 2nd Annual Modern Mystery Plays Playwright Competition!

Mystery Plays are the example of medieval drama, when people gather to hear and see the mystery of God unfold before them. The plays existed in "cycles" of individual performances of stories from Genesis to Revelation. You are invited to adapt to "mystery play" into a modern/current day setting. Two scripts will be chosen for the production in the Spring of 2009.

A scholarship of $500 will be awarded to the playwright of each production. To be eligible, you must be a student enrolled at Missouri State University with a major within the Theatre & Dance Department. Completed scripts must be submitted no later than November 20, 2008.

For more information, contact Sarah Wiggin (swiggin@missouristate.edu) or Howard Cavner (howardcavner@missouristate.edu). Please contact either Sarah or Howard ASAP, so that they can help track your progress!

The Modern Mystery plays are a cooperative program of The House Campus Ministry and the MSU Department of Theatre & Dance.

TADBanner08 On Friday, October 10th, at 3:30 p.m. in the Plaster Student Union Ballroom West, Dr. Robert Bradley will be inducted into the Missouri State University Wall of Fame. The event will be open to the public.

Those chosen for induction to the Wall of Fame by the selection committee were nominated by faculty, staff and students. Nominees must have worked for the university full time for at least 10 years. Bradley served the university for 39 years, and his work has been witnessed by tens of thousands of theatre-goers. A strong advocate for the arts and the freedom of expression, Bradley spearheaded the effort to produce the controversial play The Normal Heart on campus in 1989. He has seen many of his students make it to Broadway and Hollywood and continues to follow their success by traveling to New York and California.
