Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Studies

The Missouri State University Department of Theatre and Dance offers a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Dance Studies, which is designed for the student who wants a foundation in dance to pursue an academic career or to work in such areas as dance therapy and dance fitness or to operate a dance studio.

Auditions

In 2004, the Department of Theatre and Dance implemented a new admissions policy for the BFA in Dance Studies. This degree program now requires an audition for acceptance into the major at the time of applying for admission to the university. In addition to applying to Missouri State University, you are required to submit a formal application to the department for an audition into the BFA in Dance Studies program.

Degree Requirements

The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Studies shares the General Education Requirements with all Missouri State University Students. In addition, students take additional hours of major requirements in all forms of dance: ballet, jazz, modern and tap. Also, required are courses in choreographic design, music resources, dance history, pedagogy and production management.
